Professor Vijay (Shashi Kapoor) suspects his wife Laxmi (Jayapradha) of having an extramarital affair with her singing partner. Instead of confronting his insecurities or having an open conversation, he tries to sabotage Laxmi's singing career. In the end, he accuses her of cheating on him and she leaves home. Years later, he meets Laxmi's daughter who happens to be a student in his class. Initially unaware of her parentage, he finally chances upon a widowed Laxmi and realises that his suspicions were entirely baseless. While Laxmi and Vijay begin to unwittingly rekindle their romance, Laxmi's daughter begins to question her mother's character. Will Laxmi ever find marital happiness?
